Athletic Haven is a volunteer-based non-profit organization created to support youth athletes in New York’s Capital Region. Founded in 2016 by area coach Scott McIntyre, the organization offers FREE or low cost clinics, leagues, classes, small group trainings and more.
Through its Awareness Athletics program, it also provides opportunities for youth athletes to participate in area teams or leagues. Participants are asked to participate in a pay-it-forward program to raise funds and awareness for local charities.
Our mission is to create opportunities for every child to play and compete in sports in an equitable, inclusive and supportive environment, regardless of financial or emotional means.
Athletic Haven has also established the tsm Fund scholarship for athletes who display outstanding sportsmanship in memory of McIntyre’s son, Tyler, who passed away in 2012.
The tsm Fund was developed in memory of six-year old Tyler Scott McIntyre who tragically lost his life in 2012. Tyler was happy and caring, a great teammate, extremely resilient and loved to have fun and help people. We can think of no better way to honor his memory than to help youth athletes who display these qualities on an everyday basis.
There will be two (2) scholarships presented annually at an Athletic Haven event each year chosen by a scholarship committee. Nominees will be presented to the committee in writing by our Athletic Haven coaches following our final program of the year in September.
To qualify for a scholarship you must have participated in at least one (1) of our programs during that particular calendar year. Programs include, but are not limited to our travel teams, sports camps, monthly clinics or individual private lessons.
TOYS FROM TYLER
The tOYS fROM tYLER program runs each year during the holiday season. New, unwrapped toys are collected by small businesses in the area and are donated to the Concerns-U program for Capital Region children in need. Please follow our Facebook page for more information.
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER SCOTTYMAC
Scott McIntyre has coached basketball, softball and soccer at the recreational, travel, high school, college, and semi-pro levels since 2003. The vision for Athletic Haven took shape to honor the memory of Scott’s six-year old son, Tyler who lived with joy, enthusiasm, honesty, resiliency and kindness. These same traits serve as the backbone for Athletic Haven’s core values. However, Scott didn’t want it to be just about his little boy. Frustrated by the growing trend of kids dropping out of sports because they didn’t quite make the cut or because of the rising cost of youth sports, Scott wanted to be able to help all children in need of better coaching, more opportunities or financial assistance. He resides in Albany, NY, with his wife, Chana, and their children.
